Some of us slept in, some of us got up early to see the sun rise through the fog.And of course Max got up to play PBS Kids on the computer.  Our vacation house had wireless internet, DVD player, and a full kitchen.  We had french toast for breakfast and then we were off to Hurricane Ridge.  If we had been aware of the new "Parks Green Pass" we would have bought one first thing upon entering WA.

After we got settled our our vacation house we decided to go out and get some food for breakfast. On our way to the store we swung by John Wayne Marina.  Max loved looking at all the muscles and baby jelly fish.  The boat docks were locked with guarded entrances, so they couldn't get close to the sail boats.  When we were little we would go out on the boat docks and say Hi to people and help

We woke up at Andy's house and headed out early so we could spend an entire day at Grandma & Grandpas house. We got there and let the boys into the back yard to run around.  We walked through the garden and marveled at everything.  Max and Joe LOVED the blackberries.  They were the size of radishes and SO, so sweet.  I nibbled on cherry tomatoes.  The boys were winding down so we all took naps.

 Ben had the day off and we had some extra tickets for the park...so we all went to see the Dinosaurs.  Kaity spent the day with us, she was the best tour guide.  She would direct Max and Joe down the different trails and Ben and I actually got to hang back a few feet and have "adult conversation time".   Max, in mid Pteranadon motion.  They don't look all that excited...but they really are.

 Ben took the barrel up to my parents and burned off all the paint. Ben smoked a brisket.  He cooks it all night long.  So he sleeps on the couch and wakes every so often to add lump charcoal.  This brisket he smoked WITHOUT trimming it. Bonus * Leaving the fat on makes the brisket so very juicy.  Ben said that it was the most moist brisket that he has ever had.  Lace like meat.  PERFECT! Down fall * The crispy smoked bark is on the fat instead of the meat.

 Ben's Brother Dave cooked these up for us.  He broiled the peppers til the skin was toasted.  Then he peeled the skins off and took out all of the seeds.  Stuffed them with mozzarella cheese.  Rolled them in flour.  Rolled them in fluffy egg whites and then fried them in a little cooking oil. Ben's old needed to be replaced.  The fiberglass was "bubbling".  For fiberglass to "bubble " it has to get VERY hot.  This is Ben's new hat; that on his first set back got torched in a fire. The leather 73 badge was melted...oh ya, Ben was wearing it at the time.

These pictures are all over the place...and won't line up like I would like them to...so Oh Well.  Here is a little bit of spring color in our yard.  The lettuce is up.  In one more week I will plant more lettuce in between the sprouted rows.  This way by the time that I have eaten phase one, phase 2 will be sprouting.  There is a gardening name for this...but I can't think of it right now.

Here are a few quick fixes that were really QUICK thanks to spray paint.  This was brown, but you couldn't see it against the brown fence.  So I sprayed it white in a matter of seconds.  It will show up even better after we stain the fence this summer.  Easter weekend was quiet.  Ben had to work and I was exhausted from getting ready for a boutique. It is about a 20 min drive from Moab to Castle Valley, but it is well worth it.  You follow the river and watch for the signs.  Along the way we stopped at the Castle Creek Winery to play on the docks and look around. The boys thought it was hilarious when Ben rocked the dock.  Castle Rock.  Ben says the top is about 1000 sq feet. Walls are good when they are green and full of water. Where do you hang your Fuschia when it is snowing?  I hang mine on our lovely brass light (soon to be replaced).  It was 70 degrees on Thursday and now it is snowing. In all  seriousness...full shade.  When it is not snowing, I hang mine under the tree by our deck.

New fence planks on the east side, courtesy of Ben.  The old ones had damaged bottom sections that made perfect little doorways for cats.Then Ben ran string along the top edge of the fence where they walk.  We are thinking it will keep them from traveling along the top.  So far I think it is working. All of our garden beds apparently attract cats.  This is our attempt to keep them off the fence.  Tack Strip.  $19.00 at Home Depot.  100 pcs that are 4' long should cover the perimeter of our yard.

I've got my seeds.My soil is fluffy.The tomato cages are waiting for their starts to be ready.The soil is mixed and ready to go into the pots.  I get ALL my soil, seeds and veggie starts from  WILLARD BAY GARDENS.   They have the best selection, knowledge and quality plants.  At Valley you pay close to $3.00 for a 4 pack of trashed starts.  At WB you pay $0.50 a start and each start is healthy

Costco has this 10lb box of oats for @ $6.00.  At Walmart 2lbs of Quaker oats is $3.50.  I have been watching the water adds.  It seems the best sale is 2 cases for $7.00.  OR you can go to Costco and they are always (with out chasing a sale) $3.45.  I am almost done with the baking items on my list.  After that its on to canned goods.

Summitpost.org suggests THIS route which is not the way we went.  Instead we parked at the bottom of Alta Ski Resort and went straight up Gold Miner's Daughters Basin.  There are several chutes as you approach the ridge. These are known as the "Baldy Chutes".  The four of us did this in preparation for Gannett Peak, WY.

This spring I met a couple of friends who live in Zion Natl Park.  I grew up with the Greer brothers and they are now pioneers of the climbing scene in Zion's.  I am proud to be friends with them. In 2010, I entered into an "ultra" mountain foot race at Snowbird, UT.  50 kilos is around 31 miles.  This race included almost 12,000 ft in elevation gain as well as 12,000 ft in loss.  A crap pile of climbing.  This race is designed and produced by Karl Meltzer (http://karlmeltzer.com/).  It was a bear to say the least but I finished which was the only thing I sought to accomplish.

If you are buying BIG bulk, then you will need storage containers.  5 gal buckets are great becuase they don't have corners that mice can chew on. We bought 2 -  5 gal buckets.  One for rice and one for pinto beans.  25lbs of beans will fill one bucket.   I also changed my rice requirements from (one 25 lb bag & a 50 lb Bag) to just (one 50 lb bag).  We do not need that much for 3 months.  Costco

As part of my New Year's goals I have rid the house of ALL CANDY.  This is a miracle. In place of the candy I have put a jar of trail mix on top of the fridge. After a year and a half of living here Max's room is no longer purple.  Ben took down the flower wall paper a while ago.  We patched all of the holes. We took down the blinds and washed them in the tub.  We had to prime and do 2 coats to cover the purple. New light, new closet hardware, new door and trim color. It is helpful that the writers of Iron Man 2 decided to write in 2 IRON MAN  characters.  Tony Stark AND Rodey.  Now Max and Joe don't fight over who is going to be Iron Man.  One is always Tony and one is always Rodey.  Here they are getting the bad guys.

 Grandmas and Grandpas spoiled little Joe this year.  Max and Joe LOVE Thomas the Train.   Dad got Joe a little Buzz.  Joe went CRAZY for this. The flames made Joe laugh.There was more spit on his ice cream than in his mouth. After Thanksgiving dinner Amy took the boys to her house and I went with my parents to set up for a Boutique in Logan. ( I Know..how awful is that?)  The boutique lasted 2 days.  The boys would spend the day with Amy while I ran the booth.  At night they would tell me all the fun things they did during the day.  They colored snowmen, read books, played with blocks and frosted cookies.  Max

So I finally did it. I changed the layout after 3 years. It is still in the brown tones like before, but now it has all of the 2010 almost 2011 blogger gadgets. The updated photo up-loader...lots of things. So I hope you can navigate around with out any problems. I am still working on tweaking things, but it is 1:30 and i have to be up at 6:00 to get ready for a boutique and leave at 7:00am..
